My entire life people have been coming to me with their problems. Seeking advice, solice and resolution. Call it a "gift" if you will. My mother told me it was called empathy. The ability to do more than simply understand what someone was feeling. To actually tap into their energy and emotions and experience them yourself. Deeply and profoundly.
That's my gift. The special skill or ability I have that makes me unique and unusual.
I haven't really known what to do with that gift or why it made me special...
Until recently.
People trust me. Instinctively. Unreservedly. The single phrase I hear from people more than any other is this:
"I don't know why I'm sharing all of this with you..." My husband has watched it happen over and over again and used to be astonished. Now it's common place and he simply expects it. We'll meet someone for the first time...maybe it's a business meeting over coffee at Starbucks. And before you know it, male or female, the person is opening up to me. Telling me all of their personal and business concerns.
Maybe they sense the fact that I genuinely care about their welfare. Perhaps it comes from feeling, at some deep, inner level, that they can trust me with their most intimate secrets. That I won't judge or shame them for feeling and thinking the way they do. That I'm only interested in helping them achieve their highest potential.
Whatever it is, it's been a constant with me.
I've had an unusual life. Visit my Resume page and you'll see that I have a very diverse base of experience. I've learned a lot about many different businesses, occupations and lifestyles. And I didn't understand what an edge that gives me.
Until now.
I possess the amazing ability to put people at ease. I listen. And I analyze. Then, for some unknown reason, I'm able to make sense of it all in a way that creates real change and improvement in people's lives.
